Who are you people anyway?

For those who don't know us, WorldFamilies.net was first created in 2004, out of the learning from the Barton DNA project, which started in 2001. Since its beginning, WorldFamilies.net has focused on providing support and information for surname project administrators. WorldFamilies.net has a systematic collection of links to key information, a forum focused on discussion of surname projects and pedigrees, and hosts a rather large number of projects. We were also a founding member and are the host of the Journal of Genetic Genealogy. WorldFamilies.net believes that providing hosting for these products is a natural extension of our service.


Who is 2CheckOut.com and what is your relationship with them?

2Checkout.com, Inc. is an authorized retailer for WorldFamilies.net . Charges on your credit card will be listed as "2co.com *WFN"


What is your relationship with the makers of the DNA Project Administrator Toolkit (DNA-PAT) and The Next Generation of Genealogy (TNG)?

Both software products are created and maintained by independent developers (Adrian Williams's Chubby Chameleon for DNA-PAT and Lythgoes.net for TNG). We are authorized to resell and market their software products to WorldFamilies.net users, but the proceeds from selling the software are passed on to the original software developers.


Do I have to be from the U.S. to place an order?

Through our retailer, 2CheckOut.com, we can accept orders from most countries at this time.


Can I use currencies other than the U.S. dollar?

Yes, our retailer handles transactions in multiple currencies. Here is their policy as of 16JAN2007:

Payments can be made in any of the available currencies, but preferably in the currency the customer’s credit card was issued in. When a customer pays in a currency different than the one their credit card was issued in, the currency exchange rate is determined by the credit card company. The final charge is exposed to currency rate fluctuations and conversion fees and is unknown to the customer until it appears on the credit card statement.

On the other hand - when taking advantage of our new multi currency service, the exchange rate is determined on the day of the purchase and is guaranteed until settlement, so customers will know the exact amount that will be charged to their credit card at the time of purchase.

What payment options can I use?

You can place an order via online checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, Diners Club, JCB and debit cards with the Visa and MasterCard logo. If you pay with an electronic check, the money must be drawn from an account within the United States.

How long will my website take to set up?

We will set up websites as they are ordered.  Our goal is to have you set up within 2 working days, but the time will depend on how much volume we experience.

Can I continue to use my existing worldfamilies.net website?

Yes.  If you have a worldfamilies.net 6-page Surname Project website, you can also continue to use it, and, if you want, we can help you integrate the two websites.


How will these tools help me as an administrator?

DNA-PAT and TNG help you manage your administration data, your pedigrees, and your DNA results in an efficient manner.  It also takes a lot of the difficulty out of displaying your information to your project participants.


Who do I contact if I have a problem?

Will I be automatically billed next year?

Yes, the service is set up to automatically bill you $25 on an annual basis ($50 for Deluxe web hosting).


How can I cancel my service?

If you wish to stop recurring billing of $25 per year ($50 for Deluxe web hosting), please send an email to terry AT worldfamilies DOT com with your full name and the name of your project. Please include in the subject line that you wish to "CANCEL."


Will rates ever go up?

For new orders, we reserve the right to raise our prices at any time to reflect our costs.

For existing orders, your rate is guaranteed for a period of two years after you place your order. After that, if our rates were to increase, you will have to agree to the change and re-enter your credit card to continue service.


Can I get a refund?

Before you seek a refund, we ask that you first give us an opportunity to solve your problem.  If it is a problem that we cannot help you with, we will cheerfully give you your money back.  Refunds will be sent back via the same method of your original payment. As an example, if you paid with a credit card, your refund will come back to the same credit card.

If you wish to request a refund, please send an email to terry AT worldfamilies DOT com with your full name and the name of your project. Please include in the subject line that you wish to "REQUEST REFUND." Please also specify the reason that you are unhappy with your service in your email.
